Christopher Gugel

Christopher Gugel, a Nebraska native, is an aspiring young saxophonist and music educator. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Nebraska at Kearney where he studied saxophone with Dr. David Nabb. In May 2014 Chris graduated from Kansas State University with a Master of Music degree in Saxophone Performance. While at K-State, Chris studied with acclaimed saxophonist Dr. Anna Marie Wytko. He was also a recipient of a prestigious K-State graduate teaching assistantship. Chris has received honors and recognition at the Music Teachers National Association Collegiate Performance Competition on multiple occasions. In recent years, Christopher has presented solo and chamber performances, as well as solo master class performances, at various North American Saxophone Alliance conferences. He has also performed on multiple woodwinds, including, for example, orchestra appearances on flute, clarinet, and/or saxophone, and has performed on flute with the Kearney Symphony Orchestra and Kansas State University Orchestra.

​Currently, Christopher is the band director at Fort Caroline Middle School Magnet for Visual and Performing Arts in Duval County Public Schools in Jacksonville, FL. Christopher was the inaugural band director at Fort Caroline when they became a Visual and Performing Arts Magnet School. Prior to Fort Caroline, Christopher was the instrumental music instructor for grades 5-12 at Shelby-Rising City Public Schools in Nebraska. Memorable events with this group of students include traveling to San Antonio, TX and a performance at the Alamo Shrine.


Chris is an active member of multiple performing groups in Jacksonville. He currently serves as the Director of Development for the First Coast Wind Symphony and as the Public Relations Officer for the First Coast Flute Choir.  In addition to teaching, Chris has multiple years of experience as an avid wine maker. Wines produced range from traditional grape wines to fruit and honey based wines. Many of Chris's wines have received medal awards in various winemaking competitions, including three gold medals in the WineMaker International Amateur Wine Competition. Chris also has experience in private publishing editing/consulting and supervisor experience as part of a retail fulfillment center team.
